Bambino Beatz was created and is run by Shirley Sweet and Mike Wilson, both musicians and previously music teachers. We provide music classes along the Sussex
South Coast from Hove to Seaford for 2 weeks old / (when you are ready to leave the house and socalise!) – 5 year olds using pop songs, world music, classical music and nursery rhymes.
The music is chosen to link to our weekly themes, each week will be different and we will take you and your little ones on a visual and audio
adventure to many places, including outer space, under the sea, down in the meadow, exploring colours, birds and animals from around the world.
Our weekly themes have puppets, props and real instruments to make the experience a memorable and exciting class, while focusing on
developing your little ones imagination, social skills, speech, language and brain responses. You can read more on this in our ‘Why attend Bambino Beatz’
section on the Classes page.
I have been a secondary school teacher for the past 16 years teaching art and music. Art and Music have always been a passion for me from a very young age, I've played brass instruments since the age of 5 years old, starting on cornet and trying most 3 valued instruments until I settled on Euphonium as my favourite due to it’s versatility. I've played piano since I was 9 years old and worked my way up to grade 8 as a teenager before studying Art, Music and Psychology at University in Liverpool. I've played in brass bands in the South West and North West of England for 20 years including the stage version of ‘Brassed Off’ in Manchester when I played with Hayden Ogden travel band in the North West whilst at University. Previously I've played repinique with Barulho, a samba band, in Brighton, for 4 years. I currently play Baritone with Brighton and Hove City Brass.
I decided to leave my teaching career in December 2016 to start Bambino Beatz when I wanted to spend more time with my young daughter. I found there was a lack of baby music groups in the area where I lived, Telscombe Cliffs, and surrounding villages along the coast east from Brighton. I also found it incredibly interesting when I read and researched the long term benefits of spending time with my own daughter and the benefits of music classes to babies and toddlers to help with their development. I aimed to create a class that would be interesting for parents hopefully as well as for their little ones, whilst developing a wide range of skills integral to your little ones development and learning.
I've been involved in music for more than 30 years as a performer and a teacher. I have taught percussion to many different ages of people and have been involved in many community music projects. I won a junior scholarship to the Royal College of Music, was a student at the B.R.I.T school and have worked with many of the leading artists of our times. After getting my degree in music I have done a variety of musical projects including percussion ensembles using recycled materials, working with African musicians and other world music groups and I have performed at a diverse range of events.
